Past and Present
Millard and Florence Winklea opened the business in 1948 and for 50 years it was the only department store workshop in San Diego and Newport Beach doing private label manufacturing. Dee started her apprenticeship with Millard’s in 1973 while she was in college. She perfected her hands-on skills and gained knowledge in the history of fur. After 13 years of study under master furrier Millard Winklea, Dee became a master furrier designer in her own right. In 1986 when Millard retired, Dee bought the business carrying on the tradition quality and service.
The services that Millard’s offers include: cleaning and storage, appraisals, repairs, re-styles, alterations, monogramming, and the sales of high fashion pre-owned furs. Dee also makes bears, blankets, and pillows out of coats that customers no longer wear. Currently she is producing a line of one-of-a-kind vests and purses.
